WINDTRUST will optimise power electronics by reducing the number of components and interfaces by 40% to 60%. This can be done by using new assembly technologies such as all sintered modules and by reducing the volume of the inverter by 30%.
These measures will result in lower failure rates and maintenance costs and thus improve the reliability.
This focus area aims to enhance reliability of power electronics in the drivetrain. The wind converter as a critical and central part of a wind turbine system is exposed to different load conditions, climatic changes and also has to fulfill grid supporting functionalities. This has an impact on the electrical, mechanical and thermal dimensioning. By improving the climate protection to climate class 3K4 a typical failure root cause – condensation and water impact can be excluded.
